There was an original aspect ratio version of this put out on DVD by code red. Too bad it's out of print. It had interviews with some of the actors as special features.
You couldn't make a film today with adult nudity and children present (the piranha in the tub scene). BTW both Leif Garret and his mother have roles in this film.
The strangest part of this film is the opening credits. With the yellow credits, music chosen and the highway scenes it feels like you are about to see a TV episode of Charlies Angels or The Partridge Family.

Could be worse
Theme: escaped psycho murderkids on the rampage causing havoc amongst unsuspecting and not too bright adults. Poorly edited and directed, inconsistent and contradictory script, bad sound, bad camerawork. But with good acting of especially Gene Evans and of course the always convincing Sorrell Brooke. Some of the murders are quite inventive, others prepostorous in their staging. My favorite scene at about 38:45 (Leif Garett to Sorrell Brooke): "Grey is a lovely color. Don't you think it goes with my eyes?" Perhaps a bad film all-in-all, but not cheap, without easy gore, watchable, largely entertaining and not a waste of time.

Yes 12 year old Leif Garrett is in this flick - starts slowly but gets better as it progresses.
